This is my first post. My very FIRST POST! Strange to be writing out here for all of the the big, bad world wide web to see…. Nonetheless, this “blog” for all intents and purposes is intended to chronicle my adventures in caking, baking and the like.
I thought a great place to start would be to post a few of my past cakes with a little explanation. So…here we go…
The absolute best starting point, in my opinion, would be to tell you about Icing Smiles.
I was contacted several weeks ago by the amazing non-profit organization Icing Smiles. I had the distinct pleasure of creating a cake for a little girl named Kylie who was celebrating her first birthday. Kylie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at just 5 days old. The direction I received for the design was that they wanted a ladybug theme because they call her their “Kylie Bug”. Also, they wanted to use purple in the color scheme as purple is the color for Cystic Fibrosis. Lastly, they wanted red ladybugs and one purple ladybug to represent Kylie. So, with that I came up with this…
We also included a smash cake for little Kylie to dive right into to. As smash cakes go, it was ginormous….
The flavor selected for the cake was Almond cake with fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream filling. Perfect for a summer beach party!
What a rewarding experience. I feel so lucky to have been chosen to participate in this wonderful organization. I hope the folks at Icing Smiles contact me again soon for another project for another deserving family!
Thanks for stopping by!
